The girls had the opportunity to meet Irish author Ellen Ryan on a zoom workshop. Ellen Ryan is a writer and journalist from County Wicklow, who has contributed to the Irish Independent and Irish Times, among other media.
Ellen introduced the girls to her debut book, Girls Who Slay Monsters: Daring Tales of Ireland’s Forgotten Goddesses. The book won both the Children’s Books Ireland KPMG Book of the Year Award and the Children’s Books Ireland KPMG Junior Juries Award 2023, as voted for by thousands of young readers across Ireland. Girls Who Slay Monsters also won Children’s Book of the Year: Senior at the An Post Irish Book Awards 2022. Ellen also spoke about and read some extracts from her new book Gods Don’t Cry.
Following on from the zoom, Ellen was very kind to send out some drama transcripts. She also answered all of the questions the girls didn't have time to ask her on the zoom.
The girl's really enjoyed the workshop. Some of the girls managed to get their hands on Ellen's books, which they have been bringing in to show the class.
